Who we are

Abacus Voucher Solutions is the trading name of Plain Solutions LLP, a partnership between Anthony Rentoul and Guy MacNaughton.

Anthony Rentoul was admitted a solicitor in 1967. He has many years' banking, general management and legal experience in a number of companies, listed and private, limited and unlimited

Guy MacNaughton is a commercial general manager with experience in service-oriented businesses. He enjoys leading successful sales teams.

The two of us have worked together since 1992 in various businesses. In 1996 we co-founded, and thereafter managed, the Newspaper Licensing Agency as a collecting society for the UK newspaper industry. It now distributes £20m annually to publishers and freelances.

Why another childcare voucher solution in a crowded market?

We set up Abacus because we saw the need for a cost-effective way for businesses of any size to operate their own childcare voucher scheme. Employers have been put off operating their own scheme because of the supposed complexity. But self-operation of a scheme, entailing no more work than liaising with a conventional voucher provider, is now easily achieved. Our fees, based on headcount, result in big savings for employers when compared with the commission, typically 4% - 9%, charged by a voucher provider.

Anthony Rentoul's involvement as chairman of a group of independent schools led him to develop a solution, initially for them. Since then the product has been developed as one suitable for any employer, irrespective of size or sector.

In short, we are committed to driving down costs for organisations by providing the expertise they need to operate a childcare voucher scheme simply and efficiently.
