Employees’ Guide to Childcare Vouchers

This guide provides comprehensive, easy to follow, step by step advice for employees on all aspects of the scheme using the Abacus templates. It should be read in conjunction with this website.

Employment Contract Variation Request

Any employee wishing to receive childcare vouchers in place of salary will need to request that the employer enter into a variation of the employment contract. This form achieves this.

Supplemental Employment Contract Variation Request

Should there be an increase, announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer in the annual Budget statement, in the maximum value of vouchers that can be taken tax-free, this form enables employees to take advantage of the increase.

Basic earnings assessment

The employer must hold a basic earnings assessment for every employee joining its scheme after 5 April 2011. It needs to be completed when the employee first joins and at the start of each tax year thereafter. Abacus provides two templates, a short form for use if the employee’s pay and benefits are less than £42,475 pa this tax year and a long form for use in other cases.

Childcarer’s Guide to Childcare Vouchers

This guide informs the childcarer of the scheme terms operated by the employer. In particular, it explains how the carer will be paid the value of the vouchers issued to its customer, the employee.

Childcarer’s Registration Request

This form, for completion by the childcarer, contains the undertakings and representations essential to ensure the continuing tax-efficiency for the employer and the employee and gives the carer’s bank account details.
